Talon’s Favorite Childhood Video Game

Talon’s Favorite Childhood Video Game

Talon Sells, Staff Writer October 18, 2022

Video games have been a big part of my life since I was five. Games like Rayman, Animal Crossing, and Mario are classics I've been playing for as long as I can remember. These are what I grew up on and...

Darren’s Favorite Childhood Game

Darren Davis, Staff Writer October 18, 2022

Growing up, I was obsessed with Pokémon. I watched the show for hours, collected hundreds of cards, and spent days playing through each and every game. I explored vast regions aiming to become the greatest...

The Freshest Esport

Darren Davis, Staff Writer October 6, 2022
Since it’s original release in 2015, Splatoon has been a unique landmark in the world of gaming. The premise is a family-friendly shooter that focuses on painting the ground instead of killing enemies. Now with its third iteration, the ideas in Splatoon aren’t anywhere near as novel as they once were so it’s up to the game’s quality to retain interest. While it does deliver a supremely enjoyable experience, it’s still haunted by many issues.

A Video Game Movie Done Right

Darren Davis, Staff Writer May 9, 2022
I don’t think that Sonic 2 is the best movie ever made or even close to that. It has numerous problems and leans a bit too much into “for kids” rather than “for everyone., but it’s still a great flick. Sonic 2 is hopefully the beginning of many meaningful and impressive movie adaptations of games.
Skywalker Saga Boxart

The Best Star Wars Game

Darren Davis, Staff Writer April 21, 2022
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is an adaptation done right. Even the atrocious new trilogy is made better here, though still isn't great. Its hard to say that The Skywalker Saga is the best game to come out this year, as it is still held back a bit by its kid’s game moniker, but it will definitely be a game to remember. It’s a game focused on fun and definitely delivers.

Kirby’s Big Switch

Darren Davis, Staff Writer April 12, 2022
Kirby and in the Forgotten Land doesn’t quite reach the pinnacle of the series, but I do think it’s up there. Super Star Ultra and Kirby Planet Robobot now have another to stand in the leagues of this franchise’s best. The 3D space lends itself to having grand boss fights and better landscapes. Others are still able to beat Forgotten Lands with things like music and mechanics though. There is still a lot of other goodness sprinkled throughout this polished 3D world like the waddle dee town you help build throughout the game and the couple of mini games the game has. Everything in Kirby in the Forgotten Lands does its best to create a fun and memorable experience. This adorable pink puffball brings experiences made not just for kids, but for truly everyone.

Eldritch Brilliance

Darren Davis, Staff Writer April 11, 2022
FromSoftware is well known for their beloved titles and having pioneered an entire genre. For a company as acclaimed as this one, it’s hard to even live up to the expectations of fans. Elden Ring had more hype surrounding it than nearly any other game this decade, yet it still brilliantly exceeded everybody’s expectations. Their games aren’t for everyone however, and behind the beautiful vista, lies a callous, unapproachable hell.
Has GameFreak Fixed Pokémon?

Has GameFreak Fixed Pokémon?

Darren Davis, Staff Writer February 22, 2022
All in all, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is one of the most entertaining takes on Pokémon in a long while. The best aspects of the game can carry the experience, but are held back by a strange lack of online play and the outdated looks of the Hisui Region. Those who value graphics, or just don’t like turn based games probably wont enjoy the experience. PLA is a must play for fans of Pokémon who want a hearty, welcome change.
Animal Crossing Comes Back

Animal Crossing Comes Back

Darren Davis, Staff Writer November 23, 2021
During the start of pandemic, on March 3, 2020, two games came to sustain us from the imminent boredom. The hardcore Doom Eternal came out as well as the titular Animal-Crossing New Horizons. The latter has unfortunately faded from its original spotlight over the course of the pandemic because of its lack of features and meaningful updates. Now, almost a year and a half later, the desired update has finally come out along with the Happy Home Paradise DLC. Nintendo brought out exactly what it needed to revive ACNH.
A Look Back at Super Smash Brothers Ultimate

A Look Back at Super Smash Brothers Ultimate

Darren Davis, Staff Writer November 11, 2021
From Jan. 30, 2019, all the way to Oct. 18, 2021, 12 new fighters have interminably been added as new additions for us to play as in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. Masahiro Sakurai’s magnum opus might have given us it’s final new character, but the game’s life is far from over as evidenced by the 20+ year life span of Melee. Now, it’s time to finally soak in the fighters we’ve been given starting from the very beginning of SSBU’s life.

Does Metroid Dread Live up to Expectations?

The question remains: has the newly released Metroid Dread kept up with the times or has it stagnated due to it’s lengthy delay?
