Darren’s Favorite Childhood Game

Darren Davis, Staff Writer October 18, 2022

Growing up, I was obsessed with Pokémon. I watched the show for hours, collected hundreds of cards, and spent days playing through each and every game. I explored vast regions aiming to become the greatest...

The Freshest Esport

Since it’s original release in 2015, Splatoon has been a unique landmark in the world of gaming. The premise is a family-friendly shooter that focuses on painting the ground instead of killing enemies. Now with its third iteration, the ideas in Splatoon aren’t anywhere near as novel as they once were so it’s up to the game’s quality to retain interest. While it does deliver a supremely enjoyable experience, it’s still haunted by many issues.

Kirby’s Big Switch

Kirby and in the Forgotten Land doesn’t quite reach the pinnacle of the series, but I do think it’s up there. Super Star Ultra and Kirby Planet Robobot now have another to stand in the leagues of this franchise’s best. The 3D space lends itself to having grand boss fights and better landscapes. Others are still able to beat Forgotten Lands with things like music and mechanics though. There is still a lot of other goodness sprinkled throughout this polished 3D world like the waddle dee town you help build throughout the game and the couple of mini games the game has. Everything in Kirby in the Forgotten Lands does its best to create a fun and memorable experience. This adorable pink puffball brings experiences made not just for kids, but for truly everyone.

All in all, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is one of the most entertaining takes on Pokémon in a long while. The best aspects of the game can carry the experience, but are held back by a strange lack of online play and the outdated looks of the Hisui Region. Those who value graphics, or just don’t like turn based games probably wont enjoy the experience. PLA is a must play for fans of Pokémon who want a hearty, welcome change.

Animal Crossing Comes Back

During the start of pandemic, on March 3, 2020, two games came to sustain us from the imminent boredom. The hardcore Doom Eternal came out as well as the titular Animal-Crossing New Horizons. The latter has unfortunately faded from its original spotlight over the course of the pandemic because of its lack of features and meaningful updates. Now, almost a year and a half later, the desired update has finally come out along with the Happy Home Paradise DLC. Nintendo brought out exactly what it needed to revive ACNH.
A Look Back at Super Smash Brothers Ultimate

A Look Back at Super Smash Brothers Ultimate

From Jan. 30, 2019, all the way to Oct. 18, 2021, 12 new fighters have interminably been added as new additions for us to play as in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. Masahiro Sakurai’s magnum opus might have given us it’s final new character, but the game’s life is far from over as evidenced by the 20+ year life span of Melee. Now, it’s time to finally soak in the fighters we’ve been given starting from the very beginning of SSBU’s life.
