What epitomizes Louisville, Kentucky more than the Kentucky Derby? The answer is simple: nothing. Derby weekend represents the pinnacle of being a Louisvillian. Though the Derby has evolved into a fashion show, social gathering, and weekend-long celebration, today's focus is on the true reason for the event: the race.
The last day of spring break for many was a day to rest and recharge their batteries, but not for the members of the Animal Conservation Club (ACC). On Monday April 5, the ACC voyaged to the Louisville Zoo to see the gracious creatures that call our city home.
When Spring rolls around in the Bluegrass, Kentuckians gravitate towards one thing, the Kentucky Derby. The equine club is in its third year of operation at St. X and had its second meeting of the year on Tuesday morning. The club welcomed its first guest speaker of the year, Phil Bauer. Bauer is a St. X alum ('03) and thoroughbred racehorse trainer based out of Louisville.
There is certainly a level of pressure that goes into being a solo performer in the spotlight; however, knowing you have supporters in the crowd is sure to relieve some of that fear. This was the case for senior Chase Hubbuch in the state level Poetry Out Loud competition.
