On April 1, 2026, the St. Xavier Tigers took on the Trinity Shamrocks for the fourth time during the Kevin Doherty era. Missing senior attackman Kaiden Sullivan, the Tigers were down a key player, but they didn’t let that slow them down. They came out strong, opening the game with a goal from freshman Connor Boytis. Soon after, senior faceoff specialist Sam “Juice” Jurgensen powered through the Shamrocks’ defense and set up junior midfielder Will Townsend for another goal.
After the fast start, the Tigers’ offense went quiet while Trinity we on a run, ending the first half with a 7-2 lead. Coming out of halftime, the Tigers had one goal in mind: fight back and win the game. That’s when Will Townsend took over, finishing the game with five goals and three assists. By the end of the 3rd quarter, the Tigers had cut the deficit to just two, trailing 7-5.
To start the 4th quarter, senior midfielder Connor Marks and senior attack man Brooks Mahoney contribute a goal to complete the 4th quarter comeback. The tigers get their first lead of the game since the very first goal of the game. Junior defenseman Zach Davis capped off the game with a goal with only one minute left.
After a slow start to the season, the Tigers have now earned two gritty wins and are beginning to look like the well-oiled machine fans expect. With upcoming games against Kiski Prep (PA) and Shady Side (PA), they’ll look to keep the momentum going.
