Have you ever felt your mind moving at one million miles an hour? Do you find it hard to take some time to simply be where your feet are? Well, I have a solution for you. My first yoga experience with our lacrosse team wasn’t what I expected. I thought the dimly lit room, the smell of lavender incense, and the calm music were going to set the tone for what yoga was all about. However, I was very wrong.
Instead of relaxing, I quickly discovered that yoga requires strength, balance, and focus. Each pose challenged me in a different way, and I realized that slowing down and controlling my breathing was harder than any fast paced workout I had done before.
At first, I felt frustrated. My muscles shook, my balance wobbled, and my mind wandered off to everything else that was going on that day. But as class went on I became more aware of how my body moved and how to slow down my thoughts. For the first time in a long while, I wasn’t thinking about the past or worrying about the future, I was simply present in the moment.
That experience taught me that yoga isn’t just about stretching or exercising. It’s about learning patience with yourself. It’s about finding peace in the middle of chaos and realizing that sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is slow down.
So the next time your mind feels like it’s racing and life feels overwhelming, remember that taking a few moments to breathe, stretch, and be where your feet are can make all the difference. Sometimes, slowing down is exactly what we need to move forward.
