Disclaimer: This list is based on performance and experience and not hits or popularity. Also, I am not including music festivals. I have been to over 20 concerts and here is what I think are my top 5:
Honorable Mention: The Rolling Stones
My first concert ever. The Rolling Stones are both my dad’s and my favorite rock band, which might lead you to believe I’d give them the #1 spot. The only issue is, I saw them when I was six years old, and therefore don’t remember anything about the show other than the pictures taken.
5. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
One of the most beautiful concerts I have ever been to. I wasn’t even the biggest Jason Isbell fan before the show, and I was only familiar with five or six songs, but their performance alone secured them a spot in my Top 5 Artists in my Spotify Wrapped. I definitely recommend going to one of their performances if you’re into some good lyrics and extremely talented musicians.
4. Electric Light Orchestra
Their discography alone sets this band up for a stellar performance. Their upbeat, space-rock sound is one like no other, and put a smile on my face the entire time. There was so much power in so many different songs, and this concert made a huge impact on me.
3. The Killers
This concert was very similar to Electric Light Orchestra. It’s possible it’s because of the shared venue, as I saw them both at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, but I think it’s because of the power of their songs and the show that they put on. Mr. Brightside, a song known and loved worldwide, was an absolutely surreal experience.
2. My Morning Jacket
(Visually) the best show I have ever been to. My Morning Jacket is originally from Louisville, so when they came to play at the Louisville Palace, you can only imagine the love that was in the air for this band. The way they fixed the light show and music, the way the die-hard knew every lyric, and the way the songs touched me made this experience a memory I’ll never forget.
1. The Lumineers
Our winner and my favorite band. I’ve seen the Lumineers three times, but my favorite performance of theirs was at the YUM Center while they were touring their “III” album. Other than that album having zero skips, the music was incredible, the unity amongst the fans was unimaginable, and the mix of happiness, sadness, hopefulness, and love in all of their songs made for the perfect concert.
