It’s that time of the year again. The under classmen of St. X are choosing their classes and electives for next year. It is a huge decision that could impact the rest of their St. X career. All the way from future seniors to the soon to be sophomores. Every decision behind picking your classes is essential to the year that you will have. I am here to tell you the best electives in my opinion that St. X has to offer.
#4 Psychology
With this class you will be not only testing your mind you will test your thoughts and actions too. There is AP Psychology and just regular psychology that you can take. You will learn all about the different ways that a human being reacts and why we think how we do. For example, have you ever thought about why one person always follows a crowd not to feel left out. You can learn why in a psychology class. These classes are for incoming sophomores and juniors.
#3 Digital Music
Have you ever wanted to make your own beats? Even better, have you ever wanted to produce your own music with the style that you want? In digital music you can do that. With the amazing help of Mr. Yarborough you can make your producer of music dreams become a reality. This class is for all grades even incoming freshmen can take this class. If you’re really into music and don’t necessarily like playing an instrument, this is the class for you.
#2 Ceramics
Pots and bowls are items in your household that you don’t realize the effort it goes into making them. Do you want to find out how to make them? Then I recommend that you take a ceramics class. It is the best way to learn how to make basic dishes and items that you can use for the rest of your life. I still to this day use the bowls that I made in ceramics. This class is for all grades and is a class from my experience I would definitely recommend.
#1 Journalism/Multimedia Publishing
These two classes go together like peanut butter and jelly. That is why they are a combined number one elective that you need to take. You can take Journalism after sophomore year starting junior year if you have a B in your sophomore English class. In Journalism you learn what it takes to truly become a writer and a video filmmaker. Then after a semester of journalism you can take MM Publishing. Which takes the skills you learned in journalism and brings them to life. Writing articles and making videos for Xavier News. Definitely the best elective to end your senior year with or to even have for two years in a row.
Don’t forget that with your decisions on choosing classes for the next semester that you should plan accordingly. Make sure the classes you are taking have something in common with the path that you want to pursue in life. If you have no idea what you’re doing in life, then try and experiment with as many electives as you can. St. X gives so much to offer and you should take advantage of every opportunity and have an amazing rest of your high school experience.
