With next year’s class registration coming up, here are the top five elective classes to take while you’re at St. X. These electives help shape your high school experience and give you a chance to explore new interests.
5. Sculpture
Sculpture is a semester-long course taught by Mrs. Bowman. This class has three levels with a wide range of projects. It is very hands-on, and Mrs. Bowman allows you to express your creativity through all the projects.
4. Journalism
Journalism is a semester-long course taught by Mr. Stemle. This class is the prerequisite for Multimedia and Publishing (Xavier News) and students learn essential skills needed for Multimedia and Publishing. This course is engaging, as it involves writing stories and making videos and getting a little taste of what Multimedia and Publishing is all about.
3. Finance and Investment
Finance and Investment is a semester-long course taught by Mr. Chitwood and Coach Larkin. This class teaches you about the stock market, how to manage money, and how to handle down payments. Students learn real-world financial skills that will help them manage their money in future careers.
2. Multimedia and Publishing
Multimedia and Publishing is a semester-long course taught by Mr. Stemle. This class is everything that you read about on the Xavier News website and see on the Xavier News Instagram page. With the motto being “Consistent Quality Content for Tigers, by Tigers”, this class is all about making stuff that your classmates will watch and read.
1. Ceramics
Topping this list is Ceramics, taught by Mr. Payne and Mrs. Jaffe. This is a three-level course where you start off with hand-building pottery then in Ceramics 2 and 3 you can throw on the wheel. This class is extremely enjoyable and walking into the studio is always the best part of your day.
