Right now, the best time of the year has arrived. The air is chilly, but it’s not too chilly and perfect enough for a hoodie, but not too cold to be outside. The leaves have all turned nice shades of orange, red, and yellow, slowly falling off the trees landing on the ground, waiting to be piled up and jumped on. Halloween has just ended, and now all eyes are set on Thanksgiving and Christmas waiting in anticipation. You can feel the excitement all around you as the stores are putting up Christmas lights, the smell of pine fills the air, and the radio stations are playing Christmas music to start your mornings.
November has this special kind of energy. The November days are shorter, the sunlight rises early into the morning, but the nights feel warmer, filled with activities every day of the week. Thanksgiving is approaching and people are making plans with family and friends, thinking about the amazing food and desserts when that special Thursday in November finally arrives. The weather is perfect for a nice cup of hot chocolate and a good movie. You can see your breath in the air, and you know that the holidays are approaching as you count down the days.
Thanksgiving is one of the best parts of the holiday season. The day is filled with amazing food with friends and family as you enjoy a break from school and activities. The whole day is filled with the smell of the fresh roasted turkey, the cornbread, and pumpkin pie filling the air. The table is filled with casseroles, pies, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. You and your family gathered around the table, laughing and watching the games or playing fun games, while going back for seconds or even a third plate of food. This time with your friends and family is amazing and makes for some of your best memories. Thankful to everyone and everything around you.
This time of year is also the best time for local sports as well. College football is starting to heat up as the playoffs and rivalry week approach. College basketball has finally returned and everyone is preparing for the Battle of the Bluegrass as the Cardinals and Cats face off next week. The basketball game next Tuesday and then football in three weeks. On the weekends, the family can head to Churchill Downs in jackets and cheer with friends and family underneath the fall skies.
This time of year, everywhere you go there’s excitement and the comfort of your friends and family. The Christmas trees have started popping up in houses and stores, and hanging Christmas lights on houses and the streets. The air feels different, the trees’ colors all changing. You can walk outside, see the beautiful colors, maybe even a deer and other things in nature as well. Everything is arriving, the breaks and gatherings with friends and family are approaching. Life feels simpler during this time, the cool weather, the food, and the holidays approaching. This really is the best time of the year.
