In a sport where it’s anyone game, it’s rare to have two wrestlers from the same school meet in the championship to compete for the ultimate prize. For St. X Wrestling, this happened recently when Tommy Rosenbarger and Caleb Burt competed for the JV State Championship title in the heavyweight class.

While we may see this as just a wrestling match between two Tigers, but for Rosenbarger and Burt, being able to wrestle each other in the final meant everything.

“It felt incredible,” Burt, who finished 6th last year in the JV tournament, said. “We made promises to each other after we wrestled at regionals that we would meet in the finals at state and the fact that we both did it was amazing.”

When it came to the match, it was all business for Burt.

“We love each other, but in terms of the match, we went all out,” Burt added.

For Tommy Rosenbarger, it was always more than just wrestling.  After not being able to wrestle last year due to his weight, Tommy made a commitment to himself and lost a total of 110 pounds to be able to wrestle this year.

“It was great, wrestling real matches and being able to win has been one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever done,” Rosenbarger commented.

The journey has been long for both wrestlers, but both have not only improved exponentially as wrestlers, but as men as well.  This is an experience they will talk about forever.
