To no surprise, the Saint Xavier tennis team is off to a dominating start. Led by Coach Downs and Coach Martin, the Tigers are seemingly untouchable right now, ranking #1 in the state.
At the center of this success is something that doesn’t show up on the scoreboard: team chemistry. Senior phenom and four-year varsity starter Aditya Shah believes the bond between the players has elevated the team in crucial moments.
“Team chemistry has played a big role in my success this year,” Shah said. “The team rallies together and cheers me on. This has helped me get one of my best wins ever, and it’s also helped us clinch the difficult matches that we play.”
Looking ahead, the goals are clear and ambitious. The team has its sights set on reclaiming the state title, a feat not accomplished since 2022.
“My main goal for the rest of the season is to win State, and this year is our best shot to win it,” Shah said.
Senior starter Logan Elliott believes the Tigers depth will help them achieve this goal of a state championship.
“We have a deeper team this year, meaning we have better players top to bottom than other teams in the state,” Elliott said.
The depth is evident in the senior class, with the team led by seniors Aditya Shah, Logan Elliott, Charlie “Chuck D” Davis, and Ryan Schulz, along with the Nick Kyrgios of high school tennis, junior Webb Haralson.
The Tennis Tigers are in peak form, and with Coach Doc Martin and Coach Downs leading the squad as the best coaching staff in the state, they will, without question, be prepared for a playoff push.
