The 2026 Masters Tournament delivered everything fans hoped for and more, as Rory McIlroy engraved his name in the history books, with a historic performance at Augusta National Golf Club.
McIlroy entered the week with pressure on his shoulders as the defending champion, and he delivered. He finished at 12-under par, winning his second straight Masters and becoming the first player since Tiger Woods in 2002 to go back-to-back at Augusta.
The final round was anything but easy. McIlroy started Sunday tied for the lead and quickly found himself in a battle with some of the best players in the world.
Scottie Scheffler made a huge push late, firing a 65 and 68 in the final two rounds. Scottie made a really good push Sunday morning, but on the back nine, he struggled to make some key birdies that would’ve put him above Mcllroy.
Meanwhile, Justin Rose once again came close at Augusta, finishing near the top and continuing his trend of strong Masters performances without a win. Rose has three runner-ups at Augusta and 16 top 25 finishes. It is a just a matter of time before Rose puts on the Green Jacket
Other notable names were right in the mix as well. Cameron Young stayed competitive throughout the week, while players like Russell Henley and Sam Burns rounded out a stacked leaderboard.
One of the biggest storylines of the tournament was how tough Augusta played. The course was firm and fast due to dry conditions, leading to some higher scores, but overall left players feeling confident due to the softer greens on Saturday.
In the end, it all came down to experience. McIlroy stayed calm under pressure, made clutch birdies when it mattered most, and closed it out on the 18th hole to secure his sixth major championship.
With back-to-back green jackets and the career Grand Slam already completed, McIlroy is going to be one of the most dangerous players in the game.
