Today, the St. X Tigers travel to Shelbyville Road to play the Trinity Shamrocks, their first in-state opponent this season.
Don’t let the Tigers’ record fool you. A 1-4 record to start the season can look deceiving, but they have played some of the best competition in the nation. Losses to No. 1 Culver (Ind.) and No. 12 Western Reserve (Ohio) came earlier this season, but the Tigers are hot. Coming off a 12-9 win over Dublin Jerome (Ohio), they are prepared for their trip to Marshall Stadium. The Tigers are not yet ranked in the state of Kentucky, as they have yet to play an in-state opponent. A win against Trinity could propel the Tigers into the rankings.
With the Rage Cage ready to get rowdy and the Nantucket theme in full effect, the Tigers will be ready for their rival. For every sport, the Trinity game is one of the biggest of the year. Playing your rival is some of the most fun you have all season, and pulling out a win would make it all the better.
“They’ve sent us home two years in a row, and that really just lights a fire in me to go and beat them at their home stadium,” senior Lincoln Bayer said.
The team has been training all season and is confident in its abilities.
“When we play them, they’ll have to elevate to our level,” senior Josh “Furio” Crowe said. “For us to beat them, we just have to fall back on our training.”
The general consensus from the team is that they are ready for their rival. Even with the history around this game.
“It’s obviously a big game for us and our school, but to our team, it’s just another game on the schedule,” Channing Westerfield said. “We aren’t treating anything differently as we come prepared to play.”
With some fantastic competition in the rearview mirror and more to come down the road, the St. X lacrosse team is confident in its abilities and is ready to take on the Shamrocks.
