Most country artists gain fame throughout years of making music and consistency. Sam Barber’s story was a little bit different though. His journey all started when he was 21-years-old on a porch with his cell home and guitar.
Sam Barber didn’t grow up always wanting to be a singer. He was always very interested in sports and working outside. He grew up in a small town in Missouri and didn’t even start playing the guitar until he was 16.
According to an interview with the Rodeo Time Podcast, Barber says he just picked up the guitar and started playing one day. There was no true end goal when he started but was just trying to have fun. One thing he noticed was that he had a very raspy voice that made him sound different from other people.
His mom once heard him sing and told him that he was amazing and Barber looks back at it now and jokes about how bad he was. She convinced him to post videos and he started recording himself singing from his porch and posting it to TikTok.
In 2022, things changed for good. Barber posted a video of his first song called “Straight and Narrow.” This video went very viral and gained him so much fame.
He then started doing covers of very popular songs by people like Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan. This was also a huge reason why he gained fame, people loved his voice with other popular songs’ lyrics.
Barber’s story is special because it shows that in today’s world you don’t need any fancy studio or a bunch of agents to get your name out into the world. All you need is talent and the courage to start posting.
Now, Sam Barber is selling out concerts across the country. His original song “Straight and Narrow” has hundreds of millions of streams. Even through off of this he still acts like the same kid and hasn’t grown an ego.
