Baseball is in a Great Spot
Coming off of the World Baseball Classic, baseball fans are as excited as ever. This year the Classic had more viewers than ever with a record breaking 12 million in the Championship between the U.S. and Venezuela. There aren’t many atmospheres that are as electric as the WBC was in 2026.
One important thing to look at going into the season is who will be the team to finally defeat the Dodgers. The Dodgers are chasing their third World Series in as many years and have yet to face a truly challenging team. However, with other organizations possessing promising prospects this year, the road to October will be interesting.
MLB Spring Breakout Games
Not only was the World Baseball Classic a great hit, but the spring training breakout games brought some attention to the game as well. With No. 1 prospect Konnor Griffin and 2025 high school high school draft pick Seth Hernandez throwing 102 MPH on the first pitch, all eyes were on the Pirates.
Other key standouts were Leo De Vries (Athletics, SS), John Gil (Braves, 3B), Garrett Baumann (Braves, RHP) and JJ Wetherholt who played so well that he found himself on the Opening Day Roster for the St. Louis Cardinals. In just three games Wetherholt is hitting .308 with a walk-off home run showing just how much the Breakout Series prospects are key factors in the whole franchise.

Opening Week Hot Starts
Following an exciting opening week, it is evident what teams are ready to make a run. Four teams stood out and went 3-0 through the first week. These teams were the Dodgers, Yankees, Brewers, and Marlins. Some individual standout performances belong to Yandi Díaz (5/6, 4 RBI), Will Smith (2 HR in opening series), and Jesús Sánchez (2 run HR).
Overall, the game of baseball is in a great spot. With many teams having exciting new prospects and key players who displayed their ability in the WBC, this will be one of the most entertaining baseball seasons of all time.
