Lucas Shelton is a Panther! Shelton announced his commitment to Hanover College via Instagram. Shelton was a two year starter, as a wide receiver, on the St. X Varsity Football Team. Over his two years as a starter, Lucas accumulated over 1,200 receiving yards and 100 receptions. He will make it official on the spring signing day in April.
Why did you choose Hanover?
I chose Hanover College because of the strong academics, internships, and its location. Located close to home, only about an hour from my house. I want to be able to balance a social life and college football, which Hanover allows me to. Lastly, another reason is because the WR is wide open.
What was the hardest part of the recruiting process?
The hardest part of my recruiting process is the patience I had to have because I was late in the recruiting process. Another hard part was trying to make up my mind about other schools and potentially taking a preferred walk on at EKU. Finally, the hardest part arguably was balancing school work and getting my grades up while going through the recruiting process.
When did you know Hanover was the school for you?
The moment I knew Hanover was the school for me was when I went on my overnight visit. I had a blast and talked to all the players. After that night, I left really thinking I would fit well in with the culture.
Lucas will begin his college football career on Sept. 5, as they open up against Centre College, week one. Lucas will be facing five of his former teammates including his former QB, Mason Trimble, and WR partners, Caden Barker and Anthony Barbee.
