What a class!
Freshman phenoms have always been an exciting talking point when it comes to college basketball. Players such as Anthony Davis in 2012, or Zion Williamson in 2019 are both great examples of the talented freshmen that have graced the floor of college basketball and dominated their competition.
However, nothing has quite been like this year when it comes to the level of talent and dominance that the freshman class has showcased in college basketball.
Game after game, freshmen are showing their level of expertise on the court.
There is the Big Three- Cameron Boozer, Darryn Peterson, and AJ Dybansta. These three are the projected top 3 draft picks in the upcoming NBA Draft, and they have recorded historic numbers for their respected programs.
Boozer is averaging 23.5 points per game at Duke, AJ Dybansta is averaging 23.6 points per game at BYU, and Darryn Peterson is averaging 21.6 points per game at Kansas. All of them have proven to be efficient scorers.
It is not only these three that have proven themselves as elite.
Other players like Kingston Flemings, Caleb Wilson, Darius Acuff Jr., Keaton Wagler, Nate Ament, Brayden Burries, Mikel Brown Jr., Braylon Mullins, and many many more have all made huge impacts on their teams.
There are even freshmen going under the radar like Stanford’s Ebuka Okorie and Washington’s Hannes Steinbach who are both doing numbers at their respective programs.
The list goes on and on for how talented this class of Freshman are in College Basketball.
The number of 40+ point games by Freshman is astounding.
Keaton Wagler, AJ Dybansta, Kingston Flemings, and Ebuka Okorie have all recorded 40+ points in a game. Louisville’s star Freshman Mikel Brown Jr. recorded 45 points on February 9th vs NC. State to cement himself in this category of elite freshman.
It is safe to say that this season of College Basketball has been elevated by the skill that these Freshman Phenoms have displayed. There may never be another season quite like this.
