St. X senior quarterback Mason Trimble announced his commitment to Centre College on Monday, Jan. 19. Trimble chose the Colonels over Morehead State, Valparaiso, and Minnesota State. He was one of the top quarterbacks in Kentucky his junior and senior year. Mason will likely make it official Feb. 4 on the final National Signing Day for football.
What went into your decision?
For me, it was just that I know I’m going to be happy at Centre. On my visit, the culture really stood out to me and I feel like it’ll be a smooth transition coming from St. X. Outside of football, Centre is a top notch academic school that can really help set me up for after school.
What was the hardest part of the process?
The hardest part of the process for me was dealing with the transfer portal, especially as a quarterback. Schools usually only take one QB per recruiting class, and rarely take two. So having to compete with guys who already have college experience was tough. Recruiting started for me early, but my first offer didn’t come until late. I just knew this process was my decision, and I have a great support system that helped me make the best decision for myself.
Do you feel any weight off your shoulders now that you have found a home in Danville?
Once I committed, it felt like a massive weight lifted. A part of the reason I committed on the spot was so the process could be over and I could go all in on the rest of my time at St. X. This whole recruiting process was crazy for me and I’d often overthink everything, when it came to recruiting. But I’m fired up to be a Colonel and follow in my dad’s footsteps, as he was a former player at Centre, but at the same time I’m ready to make a new name for myself.
