The success of St. X basketball in the last couple of years has been remarkable. The team has won back-to-back district championships and Louisville Invitational Tournaments (LIT). Last year, they reached new heights by winning the 7th Region tournament for the first time since 1995. Although the season didn’t end the way they wanted it to, the team is looking to continue the momentum.
With the loss of five great senior leaders, Jeremiah Jackson has had to step up into a main leadership role.
“Having those guys leave and learning from them, especially Will [Hanke], and I’ll say, and Graham [Kreizman], learning from them and implementing on this team now to have more of a voice and step up and lead the team,” Jackson said.
Even with last year’s incredible run, this year’s team is looking to improve from last year’s historic season.
“Complacency definitely came into play last year, and this year, I talked to my guys almost before every game and let them know that every game means everything, so they come ready to play hard,” Jackson told me.
Jeremiah is leading the team in points (17.4 ppg) and rebounds (6.6 rpg).
Although the team is off to a hot start to the season with some marquee wins already, Jeremiah is optimistic about the direction of the team for the rest of the year.
“It’s been good, we had tough losses, but those losses help us next game,” Jackson emphasized. “We live and learn throughout these situations, throughout these games, and are ready to play.”
The Tigers are currently 12-4 on the year (9-1 against KY competition), and they are currently trying to win a third straight LIT.
