Senior standout linebacker Karsten Busch committed and signed with Miami on the Dec. 3 National Signing Day. Busch, listed as a four-star linebacker by Rivals, committed to the University of Louisville on March 7 earlier this year, but he decommitted and reopened his commitment. Taking his visits weeks before signing day, his final decision came down to three schools: Vanderbilt, where he visited earlier in the year, Wisconsin, and Miami.
On National Signing Day, he made it official with the Hurricanes.
What went into your decision?
Busch: The people are the most important part. The coaching staff is really what moves the needle for me. Miami’s staff loves football and very hard working and will push me to my ceiling as an athlete and with what I do off the field.
What was the hardest part about this process?
Busch: It’s hard to really go wrong in a college decision because the offers I had were all great schools. There’s a lot of work that goes into deciding, but once you get that feeling you’ve got to jump on it. The hard thing is, things change, sometimes you feel like the best fit is one place, then a week later or after a visit, it’s the other place. There’s a business part to it, so it’s important to not fall into guilt traps with schools because ultimately you have to make the best decision for yourself and your support system.
How are you feeling now that it’s official?
Busch: I’m fired up to be a Miami Hurricane. They have a great plan for me and I will have a lot of opportunities early. I look to step in and compete from the first day and it’s going to be a great journey representing St. X down in Florida.
