The Louisville season has been nothing short of a surprise. Heading into November, the Cards are 7-1 with a win at Miami. Winning at Pittsburgh and versus James Madison are also looking like great wins as well. Right now, the Cards are in a position in a very competitive ACC conference to win the conference. If the Cards win the games they are supposed to, they are CFP bound. I can’t even believe I’m saying that. Making the conference championship gets the Cards in as well, as the ACC is most likely a two or three bid conference.
It is worth noting that Louisville has the tiebreaker over Georgia Tech. It’s the fourth tiebreaker, as the teams Louisville beat have a better combined record than the teams Georgia Tech has beaten. That could be huge if they finish with the same conference record. It is also worth noting that Virginia does have the tiebreaker over Louisville, but Louisville would only need to focus on beating teams like SMU, who is also competing for the conference. If the Cards take care of business down the stretch, their path to the ACC title game is very much alive, and a CFP spot could realistically be on the line.
It is also worth noting that Isaac Brown is “out for some time,” according to Jeff Brohm. Losing your star running back in November is never ideal, but with Duke Watson coming back and Keyjuan Brown still dominating, it’s not a terrible loss. Stanquan Clark coming back off injury is also a big boost for the defense, giving the Cards the depth and experience they need to handle the pressure of these late-season matchups. The team has shown it can win tough games on the road and handle adversity, so while injuries are always a concern, the Cards still have the talent and resilience to finish strong. Every game from here on out matters, and Louisville is in the perfect position to make a serious run at the ACC championship and possibly the College Football Playoff.
Louisville right now is led by a top-15 overall defense, with an offense that gets hot at random points throughout the game. The defense has been the star of this team, making stops and forcing turnovers when it matters most. That has kept Louisville in games even when the offense has been inconsistent, which has been a lot this year. On the offensive side, while the team can sometimes stall, when the playmakers like Chris Bell who has progressed a lot, Caullin Lacy, Isaac Brown and Keyjuan Brown get going, the Cards can be dominant in offense as well.
FYI (None of this matters, if Louisville does not win out. So Jeff Brohm still needs to take care of business)
