It’s no secret the Saint Xavier baseball team has been on absolute fire, winning 13 in a row and sweeping their “Statement Week”, including wins over the #10 nationally ranked Trinity Shamrocks and #1 in the state Ballard Bruins, but what has fueled this fire in the Tigers? A brick. That’s right, a brick.
While picking up their 4th win of this streak at Floyd Central, senior Kaden Ford found a brick in Floyd’s dugout which quickly turned into a symbol of the growing chemistry this team has built. Since finding the brick, the Tigers have outscored their opponents 57-17 in their last ten games. In addition, this brick has been spray painted gold and signed by every player, staying in the dugout every game. It has brought energy to the dugout, which keeps everyone in the game. The nonstop cheers and chants that come from the dugout make it seem like no one is up at the plate or on the mound alone.
“It’s nothing like I’ve ever seen,” senior Kaden Ford said. “We all have each other’s backs, we have 100% confidence in ourselves, we all have the same goal at the end of the day. To dogpile at Kentucky Proud Park.”
But, why a brick?
“It just gives everybody a reason to cheer, I mean we’ll take it if it gets everybody up in the dugout,” senior Cameron Marks said. “We’re not done though, the job isn’t finished yet.”
This energy is another reason the Tigers are the team to beat in the bluegrass, they’re always hungry for the next game, next inning, and next pitch.
As a member of the team, the energy that is brought to every game and practice is unmatched. Unwavering support for each other and trust in the coaches has helped lead this team to victory so often. It truly has made senior year something I won’t ever forget, and it’s not even close to being over. This team has all the tools and the chemistry to make a run for the 2025 KHSAA State Championship.
