A new era of St. X lacrosse is upon us. Coach Kevin Doherty is currently in his second year at the helm for the Tigers and has made some noticeable changes.
Coach Doherty immediately came in and focused on making us the best program possible. The first big move that he made was making St. X and member of the MSLA, which is the best lacrosse league in the Midwest, and one of the best in the country. St. X’s schedule consists of national powerhouses and quality regional opponents week in and week out.

Coach Doherty has made major changes within the coaching staff as well. He has brought former D-1 coordinator Mike Ondrusek on board. Coach Ondrusek or “Coach O” has great experience as both a player and a coach. He played four years at Bucknell University and has been involved in coaching ever since. His coaching experience ranges from high school to just recently being the former offensive coordinator at Bellarmine University.
One of the biggest changes is the cultural shift that has been brought to the table over the past two years. The program frequently meets for culture meetings and chases the always rising bar of improving the culture and the overall program.
Another big move that has been made is that every member of the program receives team practice/travel gear. Everyone is expected to be in team gear at all team activities, it makes us look like a program that is all working for one common goal.
The team also travels together to all local games. In the past, players were expected to get themselves to in-town games by themselves. Taking a team bus is much easier and helps build team chemistry along the way.
The future is bright for the St. X lacrosse program. I would expect many more positive changes within the near future. One thing that will not change is the goal to keep improving the program’s culture and the never ending process of leading the country in smiles.
