Saint Xavier soccer is on top of the country.
The Tigers, with less than a month away from the end of the regular season, are not only atop the state, but the entire nation. MaxPreps ranks St. X as the number one team nationally. At this moment, many states have not begun their high school soccer seasons, but that does not take away from the Tigers’ success.
Through 13 matches, the Tigers are 12-0-1. Thus far, the Tigers have knocked off the #24, #25 and #33 teams in the country (according to MaxPreps), solidifying their national dominance.
Team leadership has been key for the Tigers’ success this year, leading to this remarkable start.
“It’s obviously nice to be recognized,” Coach Schulten said, while he doesn’t put much thought into national rankings. “It’s nice to know that everybody’s hard work is going into being recognized into something that is largely ceremonial and unofficial. The competition is very very tough, and that competition shows up at practice every day. That helps us on the practice field.”
This achievement is outstanding to the St. X athletic program.
“The MaxPreps ranking is a testament to past, present, and future soccer Tigers,” Athletic Director Denny Williams said. “This year’s team is packed with senior leadership combined with underclassmen talent. Coach Schulten continues to add to his hall-of-fame resume; they continue to put St. X soccer on the map locally and nationally.”
For the remainder of the season, including the state playoffs, the Tigers have a massive target on their backs. In their path to back to back state championships, a season like this makes that accomplishment just that much sweeter.
