On Wednesday April 24 at 6:00 p.m., the Saint Xavier Tigers will take on the #1 ranked Trinity Shamrocks at Carl and Rosemary Mueller Field.

So far, the Tigers have had an up-and-down season. After starting 1-6, the Tigers bounced back with three quality wins against top teams in Illinois and are now 12-10. Trinity enters the game at 21-4 and as the number one ranked team in the state.

St. X has already faced off against Trinity one time this season. The game occurred a few weeks ago in the Prep Baseball Ohio Tournament in Cincinnati. The Shamrocks got the best of the Tigers beating them by a score of 10-3 in Cincinnati powered by a 7-0 run over the last three innings. St. X is looking to turn the page from that game and get a win over their arch rival this time around.

It will not be easy for the Tigers to get a win over Trinity, but it can be done if the Tigers follow some keys to success. First off, the Tigers need to have a clean game in the field by committing no errors. This will limit the number of baserunners that Trinity has and help out the pitcher by ensuring his outs. Offensively, the Tigers need to work the counts when they are at bat. Working the count will allow the Tigers to raise the opposing pitcher’s pitch count and potentially allow them to get more baserunners by drawing more walks.

Overall, the Tigers face a difficult challenge against Trinity, but they are prepared to do what it takes defend their home turf.
