Tiger Basketball: Senior Recap
Tiger basketball completed its full 2020-2021 season with limited fans and masks on the bench with a final record of 19-7, and the team finished in the top-25 rankings on MaxPreps. Over the year, Ben Varga set a new school record for most career 3’pointers and earned the title of 7th Region Player of the Year. Ayden Mudd committed to Bellarmine University shortly before the season, and Calvin Schubert picked up a basketball offer from Mount St. Joseph University.
Each senior impacted the game in his own way, whether it was as an everyday starter or a bench player who worked his way into the lineup. As they hung up their jerseys in their last regional game at Trinity, they are now passing down the torch, so to speak, to their younger peers. Each of the seven seniors reflected on their senior season and the rest of their tiger basketball career.
JOHN CARROLL
What is your greatest memory of this season?
My greatest memory from this year was the locker room after the second time we beat Trinity. I remember coming into the locker room with my water bottle and spraying it everywhere.
Who made the most impact on your time as a high school basketball player?
Coach Glaser definitely. He’s always a great person to listen to and keeps you motivated to keep working even when you don’t feel like it.
What do you feel about being part of the St. X legacy?
I feel honored to be a part of it; not many people get the chance to attend such a great school. Even more specifically, the basketball program, it’s something special and has made me a better person and player.
Do you have any advice for the next generation of St. X players?
My advice would be to always keep working even when you don’t feel like it and don’t take the time you have in the program for granted — it goes by quick. Make it special and leave your mark.

CALVIN SCHUBERT
What is your greatest memory of this season?
My greatest memory of this season was the locker room after we beat Trinity for the second time and water was going everywhere.
Who made the most impact on your time as a high school basketball player?
I can’t really say one person because it was a lot. I’d say all of my teammates, especially the seniors, since we have been playing together for 5 years now and forming relationships with them. Also the coaches like Coach Klein, G, and Just.
What do you feel about being part of the St. X legacy?
It’s pretty surreal to me and I’m so glad that I got to have the experience of playing for St. X. I’ve loved every minute of it and can remember when I was in grade school coming to games and just looking up to the players so much, so it was crazy to me that I finally was in that spot.
Do you have any advice for the next generation of St. X players?
I’d say to all of the underclass men to cherish the moment that you’re in and give everything you have every day because it doesn’t last forever. Make the most of the opportunity that you are given so you don’t regret anything.

CHANDLER STRONG
What is your greatest memory of this season?
Greatest memory is beating Trinity back-to-back.
Who made the most impact on your time as a high school basketball player?
The biggest impact was made by our freshman coach (Coleman) because he inspired me in life and taught that adversity is a good thing because it makes you better and stronger, nothing really related to basketball.
What do you feel about being part of the St. X legacy?
The St. X legacy is important because you know you always have your brothers when times get tough.
Do you have any advice for the next generation of St. X players?
Say YES SIR every time to Coach Klein regardless, it will show him you have respect.
QUINN KITCHEN
What is your greatest memory of this season?
Beating Trinity at their place.
Who made the most impact on your time as a high school basketball player?
I would have to say Coach Glaser. He taught me the value of hard work and drove me to keep moving forward.
What do you feel about being part of the St. X legacy?
Now that I’m no longer on the team, it feels different. Instead of having the ability to work and make us better, all I can do now is cheer from the sideline. I’m excited to see what the younger guys can do these next coming years.
Do you have any advice for the next generation of St. X players?
My advice would be to keep grinding, and always have a positive attitude. Never let a small detail get you down, just keep moving.
