On Monday September 23, the St. X golf team will embark on their postseason journey, and the expectations are high as usual. The goal is the same as it is every year: a state title.
This year’s team is as talented as ever and is looking to capture the 22nd state title in program history. Though they finished third last year, the Tiger golf team has had a bad taste in their mouth ever since and look to go low this next week at Seneca Golf Club.
With seven wins already, the Tigers have had a dominant regular season. With great individual finishes from Luc Kelty winning the KIT tournament to big team wins in the 2024 All-State Championship.
With these marquee wins, the Tigers have placed themselves atop Kentucky and are a running favorite to win it all. They are looking to carry this momentum into the following weeks hoping to win the state tournament.
Though they are all great, senior captain Weston Hardy has set himself apart from the rest. He has shown his consistency with placing in the top ten in multiple of the tournaments. Specifically, placing 1st in the 2024 Colonel Classic shooting -3 with a gross score of 68. With this consistency Hardy looks to help lead the team to a state title.
“Our games are in a position to break records and everyone is feeling ready,” Hardy said. “Our plan is to limit our misses off the tee, because that is the way to score at Seneca Golf Course. We are more than ready to turn our 21 state championships into 22 for Saint Xavier golf.”
The future looks bright for the St. X golf team as they have great talent and depth in every class. They should continue to thrive under the leadership of coach Mike Finney, who in his second year looks to add onto what has been an impressive start.
There is no doubt that the St. X golf team is one of the most illustrious teams at St. X, and they don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon.
