#5: Sea of Monsters (Book 2)

Percy’s second outing is the weakest of the five simply due to the fact that it’s the shortest one in the series. It has some great moments and introduces new characters like Percy’s Cyclops brother Tyson, and adds interesting new aspects to the world, like how demigods have fatal flaws; flaws that could get them killed if they don’t figure out how to deal with them. All of these are great, but it’s surprisingly short. I still really like it, but I just enjoy the other books a lot more.

#4: The Battle of The Labyrinth (Book 4)

Once again, it’s a great book that I enjoy a lot, but there is one thing that I don’t really enjoy that much that is a pretty big part of the book, and that’s the drama between Percy, Annabeth, and Rachel. This is obviously something to get in the way of Percy and Annabeth’s inevitable relationship, and it’s just a bit annoying. Annabeth gets it the worst with how she treats Rachel, and it’s a bit of a low point for her character. Aside from that, it’s still a great book.

#3: The Titan’s Curse (Book 3)

The third book in the series is easily the most unique as it takes place during the winter while all the other books take place during the summer. This book also ramps up the stakes as it’s the first one to kill off some characters, like Bianca DiAngelo and Zoë Nightshade. The darker tone and the drama of this book is very gripping. It also does a great job at developing Thalia after hearing so much about her in the previous two books and what she’s like, and she’s a pretty cool character.

#2: The Lightning Thief (Book 1)

The book that started this whole series off. Without this book, we wouldn’t have this amazing fantasy series and it’s subsequent sequel series and spinoffs. The book does a fantastic job at setting up Percy and what he’s like before he discovers that he’s a demigod and when he goes on this grand adventure. It has excellent world building and does its characters and their relationships very well. It’s just an incredible classic.
Book #5: The Last Olympian (Joseph Schuhmann)

#1: The Last Olympian (Book 5)

An ending is just as important as the beginning, and this book delivers just that. The Last Olympian brings in all the aspects of the other four books and raps it all together in a neat little bow. The drama is at the highest it’s ever been with Kronos finally enacting his plan he’s been plotting for four books, and Percy faces the Great Prophecy and potentially the end of his life. Everyone who’s had some importance in the books is here and accounted for. The action is some of the best in the series. The emotions and character interactions are strong, and the payoff is well and truly worth reading, and it delivers a fantastic ending. It’s for these reasons why The Last Olympian is, in my opinion, the best book in the Percy Jackson series.
