Best Super Bowl Commercials of All Time

February 12, 2023

For some, their whole reasoning for watching the Super Bowl is because of the the commercials. Over the years, there have been some quite memorable ones that have stuck with viewers. Here are some of our favorites:

5: Doritos – When Pigs Fly

“When pigs fly” is a very famous saying, but Doritos took it to a whole new level in 2015. This commercial depicts a man munching on a bag of Doritos when a young kid walks up and asks for some. The man responds with, “When pigs fly.” Well, this young lad took that to heart and strapped a rocket to a pig and launched through the roof of the barn. He rightfully earned the Doritos bag from the man and went to go share some with his pig. Truly an all time classic.

4: Jeep – Groundhog Day

Jeep’s Groundhog Day commercial is truly a well crafted masterpiece. Bill Murray stars in this commercial and he plays his old character in the classic movie “Groundhog Day”. But this time Bill Murray steals Punxsutawney Phil and takes him on quite the adventures in the new Jeep Gladiator. We see Murray teach Punxsutawney how to drive, they share a nice meal together, and end the night by watching some fireworks. This commercial is one of the most well-balanced emotionally and comedically speaking.

3: Budweiser – Puppy Love

Hearing Budweiser as a favorite may raise concern for some readers; however, rest assured that this commercial has absolutely nothing to do with the beer, but instead everything do to with playing the heartstrings of any man. When the commercial starts with “Let Her Go” by Passenger, you know there is a chance that tears will be shed. Throughout the commercial, we start to see the connection that a yellow Labrador Retriever puppy makes with the Budweiser Clydesdales. Even without dialogue throughout the commercial, this is by far the most emotional commercial in Super Bowl history and would make any grown man cry. *It has been said that when this first aired, coach Andy Porta was seen crying three inches away from his television set.

*FACT CHECKED: FOUND TO BE FALSE

2: Terry Tate – Office Linebacker

The Terry Tate office linebacker commercial is about as funny as a commercial can get. The commercial is about a company hiring Terry Tate to just obliterate his coworkers whenever they are off task. The sheer force of unnecessary violence in the workplace just brings a smile to almost everyone that watches this. Commercials like this are needed after possibly watching some tear jerkers beforehand, like the one listed above. Although every student in this school was not born when this commercial aired, it is still talked about as a classic to this day due to the hilarious physical comedy throughout.

1: Mountain Dew – Puppy Monkey Baby

Puppy Monkey Baby is without a doubt the best Super Bowl commercial of all time; there’s no debating it. For a commercial, it checks all of the boxes. It’s funny, memorable and perfectly executed. The commercial depicts three lethargic looking men on the couch when suddenly a puppy monkey baby bursts through the door. He then presents some Kickstart to them and licks their face. The first time I saw this masterpiece it was a top three moment of my life. Mountain Dew truly captured lightning in a bottle with this idea. We have yet to see a more incredible advertising feat than combining a puppy, a monkey and a baby all into one horrifying creature.
