A truly legendary dance song with some slightly moody lyrics

Sam’s Throwback Thursday

Y’all don’t wanna hear me you just wanna dance.

“Hey Ya!” is one of the most iconic dance songs ever, but have you ever really listened to the lyrics? If I’m being honest, I listened to this song for years not knowing anything about what it was saying. Even being able to recite every single line from the song, I just thought it was an amazing dance song. The iconic music video depicts Outkast going out at a concert and having fun performing. It constantly pans to the crowd going crazy, but not listening to any of the lyrics.

Outkast addresses the problem with modern relationships in the style of a dance song which was an instant classic. Including lines like “Oh we get together, but separate’s always better when there’s feelings involved,” and “y’all don’t wanna hear me you just wanna dance”. Outkast makes it obvious that modern relationships are very shallow and only happen for comfort. Pointing out these flaws in relationships is further emphasized by just how little people have realized how sad this song actually is.
