The Fastest Way Out of the Building

November 17, 2021

As you’re sitting in your last period of the day, there are probably several thoughts going through your head. These might include the actual things going on in class, what you’re going to do after school, but most importantly, how you can leave the building as fast as possible. Through independent research and common sense, I have mapped out the quickest and most efficient routes to exit the building and get to your car.

The Red Zone

(Hoeck Building, Sangalli Center, Flaget Hall, or any classroom past the main “T” as if you were walking down the main hallway towards the Hoeck Building)

Based on a timed trial of a student walking at a casual pace, research shows that if your last period class falls into the red zone of the first or second floor, then the quickest exit is the Flaget Hall doors.  The only exception is if your last period is in the yellow zone, or room 112, then you should exit out of the door to your left, across from the chapel.

Although one who is in classrooms 111-115 might think exiting through the doors across from the chapel would be faster, the factor of the sidewalk that snakes around the exterior of Flaget Hall is a major inhibitory factor.

The Blue Zone

(Auditorium, Band Room, Weight Room, or any classroom before the “T” as if you were walking down the main hallway)

If your last period class falls into the blue zone on either the first or second floor, then the quickest exit is the maintenance shop doors or the cafeteria doors.

If your last period is near the auditorium, you may be asking yourself, “Wouldn’t it be faster to exit out of the doors near the business office?” This seems enticing, but a straight line is actually the fastest way between two points.
