Week 8 of College Football
WOW.
Louisville Versus Miami
Jeff Brohm does it again.
4-0 in the Regular Season against top 3 opponents.
The Cardinals went into Miami and stunned the No. 2 Miami Hurricanes. Miami had looked unbeatable all season, drilling a hot USF team, blowing out a talented Florida squad, and taking down a previously ranked FSU team. Many believed the Hurricanes were the true No. 1 team in the country. But Jeff Brohm did not care. He came in with a plan, and that plan worked to perfection.
Analysts everywhere were asking, “How will Louisville handle Miami’s pass rush?” and “Reuben Bain is going to have a field day.” Instead, Miami recorded just one sack, and Bain finished with a single tackle, far from dominant. Brohm’s strategy to mix up blocking schemes and get the ball out quickly was brilliant, and it neutralized Miami’s biggest strength. When you take away what a team does best, you expose who they really are, and Miami was exposed.
Louisville’s defense also made a statement on the national stage, proving they are one of the top units in the country. Ron English had his group locked in, and they delivered. As for Carson Beck, his Heisman campaign is over. Once considered the frontrunner, he threw four interceptions, five if you count the one erased by a roughing the passer call. His final pick sealed the game in Louisville’s favor, intercepted by Miami native TJ Capers just as the Hurricanes were in field goal range.
Also shoutout Miller Moss, he played up to his potential
James Franklin and Billy Napier FIRED
James Franklin’s tenure at Penn State has produced a record of 79- 31 , 50-26 in Big Ten play, The biggest one being 4-21 against top 10 opponents, 2 of which game from this past years playoff. Expectations have been high for one of the nation’s premier programs, and while Franklin has delivered bowl appearances and top ten finishes, some seasons fell short of the standard fans demand.
Franklin’s teams have sometimes struggled in big games, with turnovers and defensive struggles costing them key wins. Close losses to Ohio State and Michigan highlighted those struggles and fueled criticism. This year after the team lost in overtime to Oregon, the team fell apart, creating a trend of losses to UCLA (seen as the worst team in football at the time) then the following week to Northwestern, day after that he was relieved of his duties.
Although he was one play away from a national championship last year, losing to Notre Dame 27-24. This was seen as the year for Penn State, with Drew Allan returning and many players forgoing the draft to return. Preseason rank #2 Penn State by week 8 is unranked, three losses, and without James Franklin.
Billy Napier’s tenure at Florida ends with a 22–23 record, including 0-10 on the road and 12-16 in SEC play, well below the standard for one of the nation’s top programs. The 2025 season was supposed to be the “get right year” for Florida football, but it fell flat.
Napier’s teams were often undisciplined, frequently committing unsportsmanlike penalties that proved costly. A loss to USF highlighted that problem, as two penalties on the final drive set up the Bulls’ game-winning field goal.
Despite increasing criticism, Napier refused to give up play-calling duties, saying it gave Florida its best chance to win. That decision ultimately cost him his job.
Texas A&M: The Team to Beat
Preseason number 19 Texas A&M has climbed to number three in the AP Poll. After defeating Notre Dame in South Bend, the Aggies have improved every week. This team has surprised everyone as the best SEC team so far. They recently won a shootout against a Bobby Petrino-led Arkansas team, showing that their offense can compete with anyone. Marcel Reed is legit and is often mentioned as a Heisman favorite behind Alabama’s Ty Simpson. The real test comes this Saturday night when they take on LSU in Death Valley. It will be interesting to see how they perform on the road against another tough SEC opponent.
Indiana at Number 2
What if I told you Indiana would be ranked number 2 in the AP Poll? You would think I was crazy. Well, that’s the reality with Curt Cignetti. His teams are physical, fast, and play above their talent level. Cignetti is the coach of the year so far and might be the best coach in college football right now. Every win they’ve had has been dominant. They crushed number 23 Illinois and went into Autzen Stadium and beat Oregon, even if the final score made it look closer than it really was. Indiana has national championship aspirations, and I can’t believe I’m saying that.
Number 5 Ole Miss at Number 9 Georgia
Georgia defeats Ole Miss in a shootout, 43–35.
No one expected a high-scoring game, but Lane Kiffin came out swinging. Ole Miss led 35–26 going into the fourth quarter, but Georgia gained momentum and their defense finally woke up, scoring 17 unanswered points to win 43–35. This game proved that Georgia is still Georgia, but also that Ole Miss is a legitimate title contender. Trinidad Chambliss showed he’s a difference-maker, and Georgia proved they can win in a shootout, which is unusual for a team typically defined by defense. Both teams will likely meet again, either in the SEC Championship or in the playoff.
