This past Sunday St. X held the Special Olympics Bocci Ball tournament with the Ryken Service Club and a total of 30 students.

This event was phenomenal. Our students competed in teams with the participants and helped keep score and ref the event. This tournament allowed students to meet new people and practice inclusivity.
Regardless of the 0-3 record, my experience was awesome. The vice president of the Ryken Service Club, Hayden Spalding, was on a team with me called “The Bocci Ballers,” alongside last year’s champions, Sam and Jason. These two guys we were partnered with have special needs, but that didn’t hold them back from having a great time, and neither did our zero-win record.
“Getting to spend my Sunday afternoon playing Bocce ball with the athletes and my friends was an enjoyable and humbling experience,” Spalding said.
Inclusivity and service are two things that our school holds at a very high standard. Service isn’t just a way for students to complete their service hours; it’s a way for students to grow closer to God and the people around them. Students are given a chance to do so much at St. X and it’s important we hold up our end of the bargain.
