The St. Xavier football program is known for winning with the best players on the field and rarely having underclassmen in the lineup, but for sophomore Te’are Wilson-Towns, that narrative isn’t stopping him from making plays.
On game days, there’s no secret you’ll hear “Wilson-Towns” on the intercom, but around school many people know Te’are best as “T-Man.” He has made a positive impact on St. X’s campus from the moment he stepped on campus this past summer.
Ever since Te’are began his St. X journey, his teachers and coaches have had nothing but positive things to say about him.
“Te’are is a unique and talented young man,” defensive coordinator, Coach Bruner, said. “He has adapted to our school and football program very well. One thing I love about him is his positive attitude in school. He is always smiling and talking to friends, coaches and teachers.”
T-Man originally started his high school career at Pleasure Ridge Park High School, where he didn’t play football as he was recovering from torn labrum surgery. But T-Man knew his future was at St. X, where he originally planned on attending.
“I decided to come over to St. X for a better education, to mature and for the chance at a great football career,” Wilson-Towns said.
After having torn labrum surgery, Te’are did not play football his freshman year, making his sophomore season the first time he has played since eighth grade. Not only is this year the first time he has played football in two years, but he is also playing a new position: cornerback.
“The adjustment has been interesting, and I’m still learning how to process everything at once,” Wilson-Towns said.
Te’are not only has been playing a new position this year, but he is also the only sophomore starter on the football team. T-Man knows that this is a significant honor and isn’t taking anything for granted. Te’are’s teammates also know the value he has brought to the team.
“Te’are is a great talent for his age and definitely is a key factor for our team,” senior captain Karsten Busch said. “He has a vibrant personality that is beneficial for the morale of our team throughout the season. There is no doubt he has a big future ahead.”
