During the spring of my junior year, I decided to become the manager of the baseball team here at St. X. I had multiple friends on the baseball team, and they convinced me to take on this role. It was perfect for me because I love baseball and am very knowledgeable about the sport, so I was very excited to start this new journey.
As the manager of the baseball team, my main jobs are to help out the coaches during practice and keep the stats during the games. My goal every day is to do small things for the team that may go unnoticed, but keep the team moving forward in the right direction. I’ve learned that this role isn’t just about helping out the coaches and taking stats, but also about supporting the players along the way.
My favorite part about being the manager is the amazing relationships I create with my teammates. As the manager, I have a different relationship with all the players than they do with each other. I can always be there to support them or help them out when needed. Since I can’t actually make a difference on the field myself, I like to do what I can do off the field by supporting my teammates and encouraging them every day.
If you ever want to be a part of a sports team here at St. X and play a key role for a high caliber sports team, then I recommend becoming a manager. A manager shows that you don’t need to be an athlete to make an impact in sports. Being a manager has taught me important life skills and given me an incredible journey to remember forever about my time here.
Overall, being the manager makes me feel connected to something special, and bigger than myself. I recommend all non-athletes that love sports to become a manager, because it is a great way to still make an impact and get involved at the highest level of high school athletics. You will find out like I did that being manager isn’t just about being part of the team, but about finding out where you belong.
