The Tomorrow Golf League has completely reinvented golf, bringing new rules, and a completely revamped format.
The league, founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, has completely reinvented the sport. The TGL is held at the SoFi center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The state of the art facility holds a massive simulator screen and a transforming green. Impressive technology along with natural grass gives the league a futuristic look while holding on to the key aspects of the classic sport.
Each team, representing a different city, is carefully crafted to bring together the sport’s best talent. With PGA stars like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Tom Kim, and St. X graduate Justin Thomas, the league provides a healthy blend of veteran experience and newer talent for its viewers.
The 15-hole format and creative rules add a new challenge for all the golfers. Each hole is worth one point, and the team with the most points at the end of the match wins. However, teams have the ability to “throw the Hammer” to increase the point value of the hole by one, adding an exciting element to the hole. The first 6 holes are played 3v3, with the remaining holes being played 1 on 1. If the match is tied at the end of the 15 holes, then there will be a 3v3 “closest to the pin” competition to determine the winner.
The league has a similar format to professional hockey, with teams earning two points for a win and one point for an overtime loss. The season will conclude with the top 4 teams competing in a playoff, with the semifinal being single-elimination, and the final being a “best of 3” series.
One of the most exciting features of the league is the shot clock, and the teams’ ability to call timeouts. These 2 features create entertaining, high pressure situations for the pans and players. Each match is officiated by former NBA referee Derrick Stafford. Stafford’s experience with shot clocks and timeouts in these intense situations is essential to every match going smoothly.
