With the Philadelphia Eagles most recent and dominant victory in Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs, are they a top team to ever win the Super Bowl? In my opinion I believe that they are and I will be explaining why as well as who the other teams that may compete against them to hold that title. In recent history some of the best teams in the league consist of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, 1984 San Francisco 49ers and now the 2025 Philadelphia Eagles.
1972 Miami Dolphins
Finishing their season 17-0, including their Super Bowl VII victory. Led by coach Don Shula, the Dolphins offense relied on a dominant ground attack featuring Hall of Fame running backs Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris, both of whom rushed for over 1,000 yards. Their “No-Name Defense,” led by linebacker Nick Buoniconti and safety Jake Scott, consistently shut down opposing offenses, allowing the fewest points in the league that season. To this day, they remain the only team to achieve a perfect season, a record that has stood for over 50 years.
1984 San Francisco 49ers
With a dominant 15-1 record, the 49ers led by head coach Bill Walsh and quarterback Joe Montana, this team was a dominant force on both offense and defense. They finished their season with a 38-16 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX. Some of the notable players consisting of Joe Montana, Wendell Tyler, Dwight Clark, and Freddie Solomon were all threats on the offensive side. The defense side was stacked with Ronnie Lott, Eric Wright and Dwight Hicks.
2024 Philadelphia Eagles
Coach Nick Sirianni led the eagles to a 14-3 record and the number two team in the NFC. The Eagles players that helped lead this team were quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley, wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert. The defense was just as important, led by a secondary of C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Darius slay all the way to the defensive line of Jordan Davis and Brandon Graham this team was as well rounded as a team can be. This team capped off a season with a victory against the strong back to back Super Bowl winners Kansas City Chiefs.
