After winning the Louisville Invitational Tournament last week, the St. X basketball team is back in action with a massive weekend of hoops. The Tigers have two games against their two biggest rivals this weekend.
This Friday, Jan. 24, the Tigers will take on the Male Bulldogs at 7 p.m. in the Willis Center, which is a massive district game. Going into the game, Male is 10-5 on the season with their most recent game being a loss to Ballard 60-71. St. X enters the game with a 16-2 record after a full program sweep against W.E.B. DuBois Academy. Last year, St. X defeated Male twice, 79-71 in the Louisville Invitational Tournament and 80-77 in the regular season. St. X will be looking to have a similar outcome this Friday.
Predictions
Cooper: Graham Krezmien pops off with four three-pointers leading the Tigers to a massive 72-63 win.
Pete: Jeremiah Jackson explodes for 20+ points, and the Tigers defeat Male 68-59, featuring a highlight reel dunk from Josh Lindsay.
Then, on Sunday, Jan. 26, St. X takes on the Trinity Shamrocks in Knights Hall at 6 p.m. This will be the second match up between the Tigers and their biggest rival this season. Last Sunday, St. X defeated the Shamrocks 68-44 in the LIT Championship. Trinity has a record of 7-9 entering the game, but no game in this rivalry will be easy to win. This century, the Shamrocks have the advantage over the Tigers 25-14, but the Tigers have played better against the Rocks in recent years.
Predictions
Cooper: Sunday the Tigers will display a lock down defense and defeat the Rocks, 70-48.
Pete: In a full team effort, the Tigers shoot the lights out from three point range and defeat the Rocks once again, 74-55.
This weekend is massive for Tiger hoops, and the team needs a huge Rage Cage at both games to raise the intensity. Massive basketball games create some of the best Rage Cages at St. X. We need two massive cages this weekend, so everyone get out and support the Tigers.
On Friday, the theme will be a blackout, and on Sunday, the theme is a striped Cage, which means seniors and sophomores wear gold and juniors and freshmen wear green. With two massive games this weekend, this is an opportunity to prove that the Tiger basketball team is elite, and the Rage Cage is the best student section in Kentucky.
