On Dec. 15, the Tigers made a statement to the rest of the state by taking down the Warhawks from Great Crossing High School.
Coming into the game, The Warhawks were the #1 team in Kentucky, while also being #10 in the nation. Their star player Malachi Moreno, #1 ranked 7-footer in the nation, committed to Kentucky, had all the hype coming into the game, but he wasn’t the star that night. Graham Krezmien, a 6 ‘7″ senior for the Tigers put the game in his own hands.
“Its huge for us because those are the kinds of environments that are going to prepare us for March,” Krezmien said about the game.
Being matched up with Malachi on offense and defense, Graham kept energy high for his team making shots left and right in clutch moments. He also brought hustle on the offense and defensive boards. He was five for six from beyond the arc finishing with 19 points and 7 rebounds.
“I’ve played him almost my whole life, and I knew what my job was going to be coming in.” Krezmien commented. “I did everything I could to prepare for the game and just felt confident that I could handle the job.”
Games aren’t won by one player. It takes a team effort to win and that’s what the Tigers did that night. The guard duo of freshman Josh Lindsay and senior Chance Dillingham had 25 combined points.
“Playing in a game like this definitely gets us ready for the rest of the season to now know what’s expected in big games and big crowds like that,” Chance said on the hype revolving around the game. “It’s definitely super fun playing in an atmosphere when your classmates are rooting you on.”
The Tigers now 6-0 and a bright future ahead of them. They have the potential for becoming the greatest team to ever be assembled at St. X; however, it’s a marathon and not a sprint. With a lot of the season left for the red-hot Tigers, they will take it one game at a time and focus on the job at hand.
