Designed for inclusivity and book enthusiasts, St. X’s very own Book Club was created. The Book Club, which was started earlier this year by a group of seniors and has over 20 members, is a time for gathering and sharing the joy of discovery through literature.
Apart from being just a gathering of readers, it’s a literary celebration of stories, ideas, and exploration. Readers of all backgrounds gather once a month to share their passion for timeless classics like “Foster” by Claire Keegan.
What makes this club truly special is its vibrancy and deep connections with peers. Readers from all levels partake in exploring new genres, challenging perspectives, and lasting friendships. Additionally, members have the opportunity to vote on books they would like to read. Senior leaders Graham Brown and Hobs Ashburner made the club so they could discuss the compelling thoughts of literary discussion.
“We created the book club because we like reading,” Brown said. “We wanted to have a space in which we could share our thoughts on books we’ve read and a place for discussion.”
In addition to their ambition for reading, the club was created so that everyone could use their voice.
“The Book Club is important because it provides a space for people to talk about what they love,” Ashburner added. “It allows them to be themselves without fear of social pressures or tacit codes.”
The Book Club offers an experience others would dread to have as they obtain key reading skills while strengthening their bond with their brothers.
“Everyone should join the book club because it’s good for your education and your growth as a person,” Ashburner said. “In addition, it keeps you accountable (and offers donuts). It’s worth anyone’s 30 minutes once a month.”
The club is always looking for new members; in fact, they are actively picking a new book to read for the month of January. This could be your chance to read and converse on topics that pique your interest. Don’t miss this opportunity to be a part of this growing club!
