Senior football players Miles Dobson, Adam Buehner, and Nate Byrne helped start a Bible study on Wednesdays after their practice in order to grow their faith.
Their leader, Steve Frommeyer, is a assistant coach on the football team. He guides his players by using a book called “Difficult Teachings: The 40 Most Challenging Teachings of Jesus”. The group discusses various topics and has open discussion.
“I directly apply the things I learn in Bible study to the team,” senior Erik Ekens said. “For example, understanding the importance of the little things during practice such as attitude and pushing through fatigue both mental and physical.”
The group, like Ekens said, implements what they learn on Wednesdays to the field on Fridays. This study also helps the group members become better leaders.
“Applying lessons from Bible study to a team involves integrating biblical principles into work and team dynamics,” Buehner said. “Leading by example, the way Christ teaches us to, not only helps us, but also helps the team as a whole.”
Coach Frommeyer not only leads the teams Bible study, but he also leads the Leadership Council for the team as well. While the leadership council focuses on leaders on the team, the Bible study focuses on one’s individual faith and on the field application. ‘Coach Fro’ does an outstanding job for both groups and is speaking at Tigers for Christ on Thursday, November 14 in the chapel.
“Coach Fro is a great leader of our Bible study and lets us have thought provoking discussions that increase our faith,” Byrne said.
