Week 11 was an action-packed slate featuring ranked clashes and upset wins all over the college football landscape. The playoff picture will change substantially after this week, and teams will see significant changes in their seeding.
1. Miami Suffers First Loss to Georgia Tech
Miami came into Week 11 ranked third in the college football playoff standings. Facing a dangerous Georgia Tech team on the road, they were on upset watch. The Yellow Jackets stunned the Canes, giving them their first loss of the season. Miami will still remain in the playoff picture after this loss, but they will need to win the conference championship game to receive an automatic bid.
2. Ole Miss Stays in Playoff Contention
Lane Kiffin’s team has had an up-and-down season, with their lowest low coming against Kentucky and their highest high against Georgia. The Dogs didn’t play well at all in this game and suffered a brutal 28-10 loss on the road to the Rebels. Ole Miss has shown they have a high ceiling, and if they can remain at a high level, they have the firepower to make a playoff run. Things are really tightening up in the SEC, and these next few weeks will tell us a lot.
3. The Tide Roll in Death Valley
Death Valley was packed with over 100,000 rowdy fans for a Saturday night clash in the SEC. Jalen Milroe’s career day on the ground propelled the Crimson Tide to a major win. Running for 185 yards and 4 touchdowns, he proved to be too much for the LSU defense. Going forward, LSU is nearly eliminated from playoff contention, and Alabama cements itself in playoff contention. Alabama will most likely not play in the SEC championship game but has a favorable schedule to reach the playoff.
4. Colorado Storms Back to Beat Texas Tech
The Buffs traveled to Lubbock, Texas, for a BIG 12 matchup against Texas Tech with their season on the line. Coming off a huge upset win over undefeated Iowa State, Coach Prime knew this would be a tough game. After trailing 13-0, the Buffs cut it to 3 at the half and never looked back. Shedeur’s 3 touchdowns in the third quarter fueled the win for Colorado. The Buffs’ high-powered offense keeps them a threat to any BIG 12 team and gives them a real chance to win the league. Currently in sole possession of second place, the Buffs would have a chance to play for an automatic bid into the college football playoff.
5. The Hoosiers Hold Off Michigan and Remain Unbeaten
Curt Cignetti’s first season in Bloomington has been nothing short of astonishing. Even without any marquee wins, the Hoosiers have looked unstoppable so far. Granted, they haven’t played much competition, but they have done all you can ask and handled all of the teams they’ve faced. They will face their toughest test of the season in two weeks at Ohio State. The game will be in the Big Noon slate, which will benefit the Hoosiers by not facing as rowdy an environment as a night game. Win or lose, Indiana will remain in playoff contention. If they win, the Hoosiers will have a chance to play against Oregon in the Big 10 Championship and earn an automatic bid.
