Last Friday, members of the Spanish Club along with the Hispanic/Latino Club celebrated the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday observed on November 1 that celebrates the lives of those who have departed. Led by Mr. Stuber, students dedicated their time to cleaning and adorning the graves of the Xaverian Brothers with beautiful flowers and vibrant candles.
This remarkable group of students seized the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the blend of cultures that make up our student body while paying tribute to the extraordinary lives of our Xaverian Brothers.
The members of the class also set up and decorated an alter with art, flowers, and pictures of deceased loved ones of the St. Xavier community. The altar is designed to be decorated with items that their loved ones once cherished during their time on Earth.
Senior president of the Spanish Club, Mitchell Niemic, was more than satisfied with his experience serving with his brothers.
“It was a special opportunity to honor the brothers that made St. X the place that it is while simultaneously gaining deeper insight into the traditions of Día de los Muertos,” Niemic said. “It really was a cool opportunity for the Spanish Club along with the Hispanic Students Club.”
