There are many different factors that go into making the list as a top 5 sports commercial. The factors we use to rank these commercials are: nostalgia, cameos, storyline, and overall enjoyment. We will rank these commercials on a scale from 1-5 to get our final rankings.
Think of waking up on a winter day, snow is falling, and school is off. Next, imagine you and your buddies going out to play in the snow. Now, imagine that scene but as famous athletes getting ready to go play pickup football in the snow. This commercial is a classic and the nostalgia factor reaches a 5/5. Next, the cameos consist of: Rob Gronkowski, Ndamukong Suh, Odell Beckham Jr., Le’Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, Paul George, Luke Kuechly, Draymond Green, LeSean McCoy, Ben Roethlisberger, and many more prominent athletes snow day has to get another 5/5 for cameos. The story and overall enjoyment are also top tear with little to nothing wrong with it and will round out the list for two more 5/5’s for a perfect 20/20.
2: NFL 100
Countless NFL legends clash together at an anniversary celebration for the league. Chaos ensues and we get one of the greatest commercials of all time. Unlike most of the other commercials, this one holds comedic value. I’d give the nostalgia rating a 4/5 because of all the retired stars in the video. Cameos wise, this commercial is not lacking whatsoever, and easily earns a 5/5 rating. The story is cinematic gold to say the least, and also gets a 5/5 rating. Overall enjoyment deserves nothing short of a 5/5 rating. This is a childhood classic. The NFL 100 commercial earns a final score of 19/20
3: NBA 75
This commercial tells the story of a community occupied by all of the greatest NBA players of all time. This classic gives a nod to all of the goats, and even gives a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant, who tragically passed away not long before the production of the commercial. Just like the NFL 100 video, the nostalgia rating gets a 4/5 because of all the legends. For cameos, this earns an easy 5/5, no explanation needed. The story is great, but it’s not quite enough for a perfect 5/5, so I’ll give it a 4/5. The overall enjoyment gets a 4/5, giving this commercial a final rating of 17/20
This is a video that slides great in the four spot. The only thing that really hinders this commercial is it has a very specific time and a place, seeing as it is a jingle bells commercial. However the cameos will have to get a 4/5 with phenomenal cameos the only downfall is there are not very many of them. The nostalgia is high on this video because it always was a favorite of mine as a kid to see during Christmas, so it’s going to have to get another 4/5. The story is nonexistent, so I think it gets a 2/5. The overall enjoyment is very high and will get a 4/5 for a total score of 14/20.
5: Risk Everything Nike Soccer
This is a funny commercial that bridges the gap between normal people playing soccer and pros. The commercial begins with people just playing pickup soccer and they slowly begin to become pro players like: Ronaldo, Neymar, Rooney, ibrahimovic, hazard, David luiz, Inesta, Pirlo, Kobe Bryant, and former men’s national team Goalkeeper Tim Howard. The Nike athletes end up playing a close game in a massive stadium. The Nostalgia gets a 2/5 because I don’t feel like this reminds me of my childhood, but it is awesome seeing these players who are now close to or already retired in their youthful years. Cameos get a 5/5 due to the fact they have Kobe, one of the biggest names in sports, 2 of the 3 best players in the world at the time in the video. The story itself is sort of confusing with lots of jumps and deserves a 3/5. Overall enjoyment gets a 4/5. This is only because many people don’t watch soccer, so it may be confusing to many viewers with them knowing few of the players. This will get an overall score of 14/20.
