The 2024 MLB Postseason is underway and there are lots of intriguing storylines to follow. Here are three storylines to keep a close eye on throughout what looks to be a memorable October.
1. Will Trey Sweeney and the red-hot Detroit Tigers make some noise
Trey Sweeney, the former Tiger plays shortstop for the Detroit Tigers and is making his postseason debut this year. The rookie was called up on August 16 to provide a spark to the Detroit lineup. He did just this putting together very respectable production at the plate and in the field lifting the Tigers to a 17-11 record in September and making the Wild Card. The Tigers are one of, if not the hottest teams in the league and are poised to make some noise this October. The St. X community will be watching closely as Sweeney and the Tigers chase the World Series.
2. Can Shohei Ohtani make a run in his first postseason as a Dodger
The Dodgers spent some big money on Shohei this offseason who has proved to be worth all the money. Recently he became the first player to achieve a 50/50 season. That entails Ohtani smashing 50 home runs and stealing 50 bases in the confinement of one season. He could take the Dodgers to a World Series, but not just as a hitter or pitcher, but both. If Ohtani stays healthy and the Dodgers roster stays strong then they could go deep in the postseason.
3. Can the Yankees return to glory and win their First World Series since 2009
The New York Yankees are one of the most storied Franchises in all of sports. With that being said the Yanks are currently in one of their biggest dry spells without a World Series in their storied history. The Yankees have made deep playoff runs in this time but have not been crowned world champions since ‘09. The Bronx Bombers may have the team to end this drought led by sluggers Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. The Yankees finished the regular season winning the AL East and having the best record in the AL. This team has New York City buzzing and expect the Yankee faithful to will them to a deep run in this postseason.
