St. X sophomore Brandon Dayes made his first professional career start for LouCity in their match against Cancún F.C.
This match was an International Friendly, which is a game in which one team plays another team from another country. While these are real games, they do not count towards the team’s regular season record.
Dayes made his first appearance for LouCity on his professional debut in LouCity’s pre-season friendly against German side Eintracht Frankfurt over the summer. After signing his first professional contract on Friday, Sept. 6.
His mother and head coach of the UofL women’s soccer team has watched her son grow every step of the way. Just as any parent would be, his mother was thrilled to see her son play on the big stage.
“It’s super exciting to watch your child do anything that they’re passionate about,” Dayes’s mom said in a WDRB interview.
Although these lights were certainly brighter than others in his career, Dayes treats all games the same.
“I prepare myself mentally by always telling myself to play the game and not the occasion,” Dayes said.
Dayes had an impressive game, showing great confidence on the ball in his 45 minutes played. As Brandon’s career continues, we are all excited to see what he can achieve.
