The Tigers have unleashed their newest playmaker, junior Mason Trimble, as the varsity starting quarterback.
While this is a big decision for the direction of the program, Trimble believes it ultimately came down to three factors.
“The first is the hard work I put in during the offseason,” Trimble said. “The second is the trust between me, my teammates, and our coaches. Lastly, the whole idea of “iron sharpens iron”, competing with a good quarterback like Thomas definitely made me a better quarterback.”
Every great quarterback has their own unique components, allowing them to succeed. Trimble’s key strengths are his decision-making, accuracy, and athleticism. These strengths allow Trimble to excel in driving the offense, making big plays up and down the field, and allowing him to be a difference maker.
With the starting role comes lots of responsibilities and pressure. On top of football being extremely demanding physically, it is also a mental battle. Trimble needs to prepare for each game physically as well as mentally.
“I’m 1/22nd of the team and I have the responsibility of ensuring that I’m confident, loose, and ready to go and that can only come from preparation,” Trimble said.
So far, the dual threat quarterback has exceeded expectations and thrived under pressure, leading the Tigers to a 2-0 start. Trimble looks to continue his success tonight against the Male Bulldogs. The number three ranked team in the state will be a true test for the junior quarterback.
