Fall is finally here, which means soccer season is in full stride. The Tiger soccer team has high expectations for this season after winning a state championship in 2023, looking to go back-to-back first the first time since 2017 and 2018.
“Of course we want to run it back and all want that same goal; however, we can’t do this without building some momentum during the regular season,” Webber said. “We are going to keep progressing each game, making the next game better than the last.”
Progression is key for the Tigers this year as they grow as a team and get better throughout the season. The Tigers need to concentrate on each upcoming game and not the end goal of going back-to-back.
The Tigers have put in countless hours of hard work to prepare for this season.
“The team has prepared for this season by doing two-a-day training sessions for two weeks and doing an athletic circuit that we do for preseason,” senior captain and striker Stone Work said.
This level of drive will propel the Tigers to success this season on the pitch.
The Tigers have many strengths this season, mainly the backline.
“Our defensive players are the best in the state and as a unit they are very hard to beat,” Work added..
Webber offered a different perspective, highlighting the senior leadership as another strength of the team.
“We have four outstanding senior captains (Stone Work, Grayson Petty, Max Gaunt, TJ Kaskocsak), and we all build off each other’s energy,” said Webber.
The Tigers have had a dominant start to the season, starting 4-0-1 with wins over Manual, Ballard, and South Oldham by a combined score of 12-3. The team then traveled to Noblesville for two games this past weekend. They tied against a nationally ranked Noblesville team 0-0, and defeated Detroit Catholic Central 3-0.
