In Kentucky high school tennis, one team consistently stands out: the St. X Tigers. Winning back-to-back singles titles almost a century ago in 1932 and 1933, the Tigers have established a formidable reputation. Fifty years later, team titles were established in the state of Kentucky.
The Tigers have dominated the tennis scene for four decades, winning 29 team titles from 1983 to 2022. Despite being runners-up in 2023, the Tigers are determined to reclaim their championship title this year in 2024.
Preparation is paramount in tennis, where serves and returns rule the game as crucial elements to win. Senior Captain William Lewis, boasting four years of varsity experience in the Tiger Tennis program, exemplifies the importance of preparation in the sport.
“Typically, I try to prepare the same for every match,” Lewis said. “Usually, days before when I’m practicing, I’ll focus on different strategies and different plays I can run against certain kids.”
The tennis team is preparing for the state tournament in late May and early June. If you want an inside look at the team’s preparation, watch the video below.
