Kentucky and Louisville have a historic rivalry in sports like football, basketball and baseball; however, this Saturday, rugby will be added to the list as UK and UofL face off in the National Championship in Houston.
The University of Louisville played in the Division 1 AA tournament last year against Virginia Tech. They fell short in the final losing 24-22, but their head coach, Coach Emil, said they would be back and made sure people remembered that only one senior graduated last year.
At the beginning of this year, they struggled in their conference with two losses. A the end of the season, they changed it around and won their conference championship. This gives them the opportunity to play in the national championship playoffs. After defeating Tennessee and Virginia Tech in the first two rounds, they advanced to the tournament.
This week, the teams are preparing to face off against each other. They will be ready to meet in Houston at the stadium of the Sabercats in the National Tournament Championship.
The University of Kentucky has dominated the SCRC all year, and they went undefeated in their conference. After defeating Tennessee in the SCRC final 32-12, they were given the number one seed.
This moved them into the playoffs. After defeating NC state 31-12, they went on to the elite eight to play Boston College. Kentucky was well prepared for this matchup and eliminated them with a score of 51-14. This win allows them to move to the championship.
